For any Pump Station, energy cost contributes approx. 75-85% of the total pump station cost (CAPEX + OPEX) over its design life. Energy cost for a Pump Station is directly proportional to the pumping head or the rising pipe diameter contributing to the high/ low head losses or pumping head for a given flow condition.

So the selection of Optimum diameter for a Pump Station (PS) pressure (rising) main is very critical to get the most economical Whole Life Cycle Cost (WLCC) for Pump Station.

Pump Station Optimum Diameter Selection (PS OptDia) is a powerful program that helps designer in the selection of a rising (pressure) main pipe size, subject to the fulfilment of other hydraulic criteria (i.e. min/ max acceptable velocity, self-cleansing velocity), that provides the most economical Net Present Value (NPV) over the design year for Pump Station.

The program evaluates five pipe diameter options for the pump station and calculates the followings for each option:
•Headlosses through pressure (rising) main using Colebrook or Hazen Willium equation
•Pump capacity (motor rating, pumping head)
•Annual energy consumption (kWH/ yr)
•Pump Station CAPEX (Pump, internal piping, fittings and rising main cost)
•Pump Station OPEX (energy cost and maintenance cost), and
•Net Present Value (NPV)

The results are presented in tabular as well as graphical form to easily interpret the outputs. This program works for S.I. as well as U.S. units.
